Global R&D celebrates 50 years at East Chicago

2017 marked the 50-year anniversary of East Chicago R&D with the theme: we make steel safer, stronger and better for our customers and communities across the world.


In the United States, ArcelorMittal operates a R&D center in East Chicago, Indiana employing approximately 200 and devoted to research on flat products, primarily automotive. East Chicago played a major role in the development and promotion of 3rd generation advanced high strength steels, now a worldwide focus for light-weighting and safety enhancement in the auto industry. 


With more than 1,300 full-time researchers employed across the globe at 11 research centers, ArcelorMittal is at the heart of developing new steel products and solutions.
