Introduction
Hot dip galvannealed (GA) steel is a two-side, hot dip galvanized product where the zinc coating is heat treated and transformed to an iron/zinc alloy that offers superior painting and weldability. The iron/zinc alloy coating forms a strong bond with automotive phosphates, resulting in an excellent base for finish painting. This coating-phosphate-paint system offers very effective paint adhesion and corrosion resistance. The higher contact resistance of this coating, combined with the light coating weight, allows more welds before weld tip replacement. The paintability and weldability advantages are maintained under bending and forming operations. GA product has a dull gray color.

Features
We offer a wide range of precisely controlled chemical compositions with low residuals. Various product attributes, additional offerings and capabilities are shown below.
Surface finish
-
Min. spangle and/or extra smooth
Standard processing includes temper rolling for consistent surface appearance.
-
Temper rolled for fluting sensitive applications
Available on non-IF steels for a coil-break free surface. Not available for HSLA steels. Not required for IF steel, as coil breaks will not occur.
-
Exposed
For applications where final surface appearance is important, including for painted applications.
Surface treatments
-
Oil
Provides temporary corrosion protection and lubrication for forming operations.
-
Chemical treated (galvannealed)
Provides barrier corrosion protection.
-
Non chemical treat dry
No product is added after zinc coating.
-
Prelube
Provides temporary corrosion protection and extra lubrication for forming operations.
-
Phosphate coated
Reduces friction for forming operations.
