Introduction
ArcelorMittal is the leading supplier of cold rolled steels in the United States. Cold rolled sheet steel is produced in a variety of qualities, surface finishes, strength levels and chemistries. Cold rolled sheet steel is produced from hot rolled sheet with additional processing steps such as pickling, cold reduction, annealing and temper rolling. Cold rolled steel is a product that has been cold reduced, as opposed to hot rolled, in order to impart specific mechanical properties, surface finish, gauge tolerance and strip shape.
The benefits of cold rolled sheet include excellent performance in applications that require deep drawing and intricate bending and forming. Cold rolled steel is easy to weld and preparation of its uniform surface for application of finishes is simple and affordable. High strength cold rolled sheet steels are used for weight reduction while increasing strength and durability which can provide cost reductions to customers.
MartINsite® is an ultra-high strength, fracture tough, cold rolled steel. It has the highest strength to weight ratio of any cold rolled steel. This material has been designed especially for roll formed or tubular (welded) applications such as door intrusion and bumper beams. MartINsite® is sold to minimum tensile strength levels and can be used where high strength and/or lightweighting is required. MartINsite® can be applied as a substitute for high carbon alloy steels, spring steels and some non-ferrous materials, which may result in cost savings.
