Cold-rolled sheet is a hot band that has been further processed through a pickle line for surface cleaning. It is then passed through a tandem mill for the desired gauge and thickness.
Cold-rolling or cold reduction, reduces gauge and hardens the steel. Further processing through an annealing furnace and temper mill improves ductility and formability. Cold-rolling can also impart various surface finishes and textures. Cold-rolled sheet is used for steel applications that demand higher surface quality, such as exposed automotive
parts, office furniture and appliance
panels. For certain applications, cold-rolled sheet can be coated or painted.
